304 Stainless Steel Dished Heads for Tank and Shell Fabrication
These circular dished heads provide a curved end-closure component for welded tanks, shells and large-diameter fabrication enquiries. The photographs show open rims, curved crown areas and straight skirt sections, with both individual heads and stacked batches. A dimensioned profile and the mating shell drawing are needed to define the ordered component.
The supplier reference identifies 304 stainless steel and describes an elliptical head. Neither a standard ellipsoidal ratio nor a specific crown-and-knuckle geometry can be verified from the photographs. Order against an approved contour drawing rather than treating “elliptical,” “dished” or “tank head” as a complete specification.
Product Specifications and Ordering Details
| Item | Reference information / details to specify |
|---|---|
| Product type | Circular dished tank head or weld-on shell end closure. |
| Material reference | 304 stainless steel in the supplied listing. Confirm the exact material standard, grade designation and required material documentation. |
| Diameter | Identify whether the specified dimension is inside or outside diameter. Include the shell diameter, thickness and fit-up tolerance. |
| Reference size labels | 600 × 2, 900 × 3.5 and 800 × 5.5 appear in the reference. Units, diameter basis and thickness definition are not verified; request a corresponding drawing before ordering. |
| Head contour | Specify the profile standard or full contour, crown and transition geometry, dish depth and straight skirt length. |
| Thickness | Specify nominal starting thickness where relevant and the required minimum finished thickness after forming, with the measurement and acceptance requirements. |
| Weld edge | State trimming, bevel angle, root face, edge condition and any fit-up requirements on the drawing. |
| Construction | Confirm one-piece or fabricated construction, any weld seams, and the forming and treatment requirements. No manufacturing route is assigned from surface appearance alone. |
| Surface finish | Specify internal and external surface condition, cleaning and any required finishing treatment for quotation review. |
| Service and records | Provide medium, design and operating conditions, applicable code, inspection scope and required documents. |
Define the Profile Before Comparing Quotations
Two heads with the same outside diameter can differ in depth, skirt length and contour. Those differences affect the installation envelope and the shell connection. Mark the controlling dimensions and tolerances, and provide the mating shell drawing when possible. For a replacement, include measured dimensions and a profile drawing in addition to photographs.
Clarify whether the head is supplied as formed, trimmed or prepared for welding. A visible straight rim does not establish a bevel angle, root face or finished roundness tolerance. Any openings, attachments or other alterations must appear on the approved drawing; they are not assumed part of the photographed supply scope.
Thickness and Service Requirements
Distinguish starting plate thickness from finished head thickness. State the required minimum after forming and the locations or method used for verification. Do not compare a starting-thickness quotation with a minimum-finished-thickness requirement as though they were the same acceptance basis.
For pressure-retaining or vacuum service, provide the applicable design code, design pressure and temperature, material specification and approved component drawing. Geometry, thickness, material, construction and the connection to the shell require project-specific review. These photographs do not establish a pressure rating, code certification, leakage performance or suitability for any particular fluid.
For other tank or process-equipment applications, describe the medium, temperature, cleaning conditions and environmental exposure. A 304 material reference alone does not establish corrosion resistance in every service or a hygienic surface qualification.
Fabrication and Inspection Planning
Agree the supply boundary before production: raw or finished edge, surface condition, material identification, marking and protection during transport. Stacked workshop photographs illustrate the product form; they are not a commitment to available stock, a particular diameter range or delivery time.
Inspection requirements may include material identity and traceability, diameter and roundness, profile and depth, skirt length, thickness distribution and weld-edge condition. Where seams, special examination, treatment records or other documentation are required, define the method and acceptance criteria for confirmation with the quotation. See AODSON quality control and inspection information.
Related End-Closure Enquiries
This page addresses the supplied 304 tank-head reference and batch photographs. If your enquiry specifies the previously listed 310S material reference, see stainless steel elliptical heads and end caps. The references are not a claim that either grade can be substituted for the other; retain the material required by the project design.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are these standard 2:1 ellipsoidal heads?
A 2:1 ratio is not confirmed. Send the required contour drawing or standard designation, dish depth and skirt dimensions.
Can I order using diameter and plate thickness only?
No. Also confirm the diameter basis, finished thickness requirement, contour, skirt length, edge preparation, tolerances and service requirements.
Does the product have a certified pressure rating?
No pressure rating or code certification is established by the supplied reference. Any required pressure-service design and documentation must be reviewed for the exact component and assembly.
Request a Dished Tank Head Quote
Send the drawing revision, material specification, inside or outside diameter, contour, minimum finished thickness, depth, skirt length, weld-edge details, quantity and destination. Include design conditions, construction requirements and inspection documents so the quote covers the intended scope.
